CLYDE RIVER ACTION GROUP
October 2009 Newsletter
Dear Fellow Upper Clyde Resident,
We wanted to keep everyone updated about progress to date regarding our campaign to halt the proposed Patersons sand & gravel quarry at Overburns Farm, Lamington. The formal period of objection has now passed and South Lanarkshire Council are now awaiting formal responses from the various consultant statutory bodies before making their recommendation to the Planning Committee. We know that South Lanarkshire Council have been bombarded with an incredible amount of letters of objections which we believe could be close to 800 in number.
A decision by South Lanarkshire Council is scheduled by the end of the year, however, with the amount of objections and political concern a decision may not be made until 2010.
CRAG’s official letter of objection is now with South Lanarkshire Council and we can confirm that our Planning Consultants have robustly challenged the contents of Patersons’ Environmental Statement.
We cannot thank you all enough for your level of support and kind donations that have been received to date. To keep in touch with our progress please check regularly our website www.crag.uk.com
As you can imagine substantial costs have now been incurred by CRAG in our fight to protect the Upper Clyde Valley, where we have now commissioned a heavyweight planning team as well as solicitors to stop this quarry.
CRAG are now actively fundraising in a bid to raise more funds and also enhance the profile of our campaign. We have some significant fundraising events coming up for the remainder of the year which are as follows;
